About the Role

You will be joining the R&D Engineering team creating the first-ever HD Hydro system. As Sr. Power Conversion Engineer, you will lead the on-going research and development activities of the HD Hydro power conversion systems including aspects of integration with the control system. This activity will culminate in the design and implementation of full-scale HD Hydro power conversion system on site. You will also contribute to other ongoing thematic R&D activities including the development of R&D test rigs, processes, test and instrumentation and automation. As the product matures, you will be contributing to product development in response to customer needs and market-specific requirements; delivery to customers; and deploying long-term O&M solutions. You will have an exemplary track record in power electronics design, analysis, and modelling, through to working with suppliers to deliver the final hardware. This role has the potential for future line management as the company.

This full-time position is based at RheEnergise’s HD Hydro Technology Centre in Montréal and reports to the CTO.

Your Skills

  • Electrical Engineering degree with specialty in power conversion and 6+ years experience working with power conversion systems. Optionally, but as a significant asset, you have exposure to hydro power or renewable energy systems; qualification as a professional engineer; and familiarity with relevant codes and standards

  • Demonstrated experience with VFDs, PMSM, and their sizing, configuration and integration

  • Exposure to grid connection design, test rigs, working with LV and HV, and working in an R&D environment

  • Energy thruputs modelling with the goal of optimizing power conversion efficiency

  • Preparing detailed engineering designs, single line drawings, layout drawings, conductor routings, cable schedules, and technical specifications for construction work (greenfield and brownfield projects)

  • Extensive experience in sourcing of components and services

  • Programming skills including LabVIEW and EtherCAT

  • A knack for systems design with the ability to see both the big picture and the small details

  • Ability to quickly learn new software and program complex systems

  • Support commercial team in preparing technical content for project proposals

  • Domain expert within the engineering team and collaborate with mechanical, fluids and process engineers to solve system level issues.

  • Excellent transferable skills make you a versatile early employee
